Salt Lake County offers an official inmate lookup and daily jail roster and docket files. The research did not confirm that the inspected search-results table displays thumbnail mugshots. The public lookup source does contain an imgSysID value when a result row is clicked, which suggests the profile system can associate an image with an inmate record. Still, the profile view did not render through stateless command-line inspection, and the current results table inspected on July 1, 2026 showed names and identifiers rather than visible photo thumbnails.
That evidence supports a cautious records-oriented answer: Salt Lake County may have booking photos tied to jail records, but the public result table should not be described as a guaranteed mugshot gallery. A user looking for a Salt Lake County booking photo should check the official profile in a browser, review the daily roster and docket PDFs visually, then use a GRAMA request through Salt Lake County if no photo is available online. Court records normally do not publish jail mugshots as routine case-search images.
What is and isn't public: The county jail lookup and roster files are public access channels, but inspected current result rows did not show mugshot thumbnails. Birth dates and similar identifiers may also be redacted or blank under Utah records rules.
Find Salt Lake Booking Photos
The county's official search path starts with the Find a Prisoner page and the Inmate Lookup Tool. The daily roster and in/out docket page is a second official source. A current booking photo, if public through the online profile, would logically be found after opening the person's profile from the inmate lookup, not from the court case search. The daily roster PDFs should also be checked visually because PDF text extraction cannot prove whether an image appeared in the file layout.
- Search the official Salt Lake County Inmate Lookup Tool by last name or known identifier.
- Open the inmate profile in a browser and check whether the profile displays a booking image.
- Review the current Jail Dockets & Rosters PDF files for the person's entry and any visible photo field.
- If no image is online, submit a GRAMA request for the booking photo through Salt Lake County NextRequest.
- If the person moved to state custody, use UDC Offender Search for the state offender profile instead of the county jail roster.

Salt Lake Photo Record Fields
A booking photo is one possible part of a jail record, but the inspected Salt Lake County result inventory was stronger for names, identifiers, booking fields, roster PDF columns, and docket columns. The daily roster showed housing, SO number, booking number, booking date and time, TP code, and charges. The daily docket showed book number, SO number, OTN, arrestee name, state, agency, officer, charges, time in, F/M, TP, and count or description fields. Profile-level image display still needs browser confirmation for a specific inmate.

Salt Lake Mugshot Law
Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, known as GRAMA, controls access to county records. The research did not locate one Utah statute that says "booking photos are public" by that exact phrase. The safer reading is that a booking photo request should be handled as a GRAMA request to the record holder, subject to public, private, controlled, protected, and restricted classifications. Salt Lake County's removal of birth dates and similar identifiers from online jail roster display also shows that public jail records can be redacted.

Salt Lake Mugshot Retention
The research did not find a Salt Lake County rule stating a precise number of hours or days that a booking photo remains online. The daily roster and docket products list recent files, and the API evidence showed available roster and docket files from May through July 1, 2026. That supports describing the roster and docket products as recent official snapshots, not a complete public archive of mugshots. If a person is released, transferred, or moved to UDC custody, the online county jail path may no longer be the right public source.
Historical photo access is a records-request question. A GRAMA request should identify the person, booking number if known, arrest or booking date, agency if known, and the requested booking photo. If the record is classified as private, protected, controlled, sealed, expunged, or otherwise restricted, Salt Lake County may deny, redact, or limit access under Utah law.
Request Salt Lake Booking Photos
Salt Lake County's formal public-record path is the sheriff records process and Salt Lake County NextRequest portal. Use that path for a booking photo that is not visible through the current profile or roster material. The request should be specific. Include full name, approximate arrest or booking date, booking number, SO number, arresting agency, and a clear phrase such as "booking photograph" or "jail booking photo." Avoid asking for every file connected to a person unless that is truly needed because broad requests can take longer and may trigger more redaction review.

NextRequest is the fallback when a booking photo or older jail record is not available through the public roster tools.
Salt Lake Mugshot Removal
Official removal or redaction questions should run through the record holder and the court record process. A dismissal, acquittal, or expungement may affect public criminal records, but the effect depends on Utah law, the court order, and the system that holds the record. Title 77, Chapter 40a is the Utah expungement chapter. If a court grants an expungement, the person should use the court order and official record-holder instructions to address records that remain public.
For Salt Lake County jail sources, removal or redaction requests should be directed to sheriff records or the GRAMA portal. For the court case, use Utah Courts and the appropriate clerk. For state prison offender information, UDC controls its offender search under state offender-information rules. Federal and immigration records follow separate federal agency processes.
State and Federal Photos
Salt Lake County contains state correctional facilities, including the Utah State Correctional Facility and UDC community correctional centers, but those are not county jail mugshot sources. A sentenced state prisoner should be searched through the UDC Offender Search. UDC offender profiles may show state offender photos where available, and Utah Code 64-13-10.7 governs UDC offender information release. County booking numbers and county jail photo questions do not control the UDC profile after transfer.
Federal and immigration custody are different again. The BOP inmate locator and ICE ODLS are custody locators, not public mugshot galleries. BOP and U.S. Marshals channels generally do not publish federal mugshots in the same way some county jail sites do. ICE ODLS identifies immigration detention status but does not show Salt Lake County criminal charges. If a person has an ICE detainer or federal hold while in county jail, check both the county jail tools and the correct federal or immigration locator.
Mugshots and Court Records
A Salt Lake County booking photo is a jail record issue. A court record after arrest is a case issue. Court records can show filed charges, amended charges, warrants, bond conditions, dismissals, pleas, convictions, and sentencing. They usually do not include a routine mugshot image in the public case-search summary. When a person needs both custody status and case status, use the jail lookup first for custody and the court search next for filed charges.
Charge information beside a booking photo should also be read carefully. Booking charges can be based on arrest or intake data and may differ from the prosecutor's filed charges. A mugshot does not prove conviction. The final legal outcome comes from the court record, disposition, and any later appeal or expungement order.
